Cathedral Window Boxes

I’ve  been working on cathedral window boxes. I made a bunch of pillows for Christmas gifts (most of which I forgot to take photos).

Here is one I made for me with my coke stash.

I always put something in the windows. It’s just fun.

Since we’re going to be on the road all summer, I decided to do a quilt/spread for my bed. Bob drives the RV and I sew.  I did the basic top (mostly by machine) before we left.

Here is the top I’m working on.

         I cut out about 50 different fabric squares of sea life, and I am hand sewing the squares into their windows.

Here’s a section I’ve finished.

I actually decided to add a layer of batting in each square and sewing on the buttons tacks down the batting. I put buttons on the back, too. It adds strength and it hides the stitches.

Usually Window boxes don’t need batting as they are already several layers of fabric, but I wanted it thick and warm.




Here are another of the pillows I did.

Here is a top I just finished that will be a pillow when we get home.

I liked the other coke pillow, but I wanted to use slightly bigger squares to get more of the design in.

View (below)from the side, with the Boho curtains closed. I’ve painted the shelves, but I’m going to trim them in checkerboard to match the dresser.

There’s lots of room underneath. It will hold six giant plastic tubs and still have room for more. You have to crawl to get in, but once inside there’s lots of room.

The boho curtains took ten times longer than traditional ones, but I love them.  I have the skirt for the bottom, to cover the storage area,  almost done. I’m going to Velcro it on. I was going to make a ruffled one with elastic but decided against it.

Decoupaged Dresser

My son is a musician, when he moved back home this year for a six month round of chemo, I redid his room. I started with the dresser. I decopauged all but the trim, which I painted with black enamel, with old sheets of music. Then printed out some musical graphics from my computer. A good spray with sealer and they can be decoupaged, too. I then chalked various pastel colors here and there and finished with three coats of polyurethane. New knobs and it was done.

Step three...(starting at bottom)

Put the lining together. Added very thick interfacing (The for making hats kind) and four interior pockets. At this point I also added the side pieces that will be attached to the rings for the handle.

Step two.. (steps in order bottom up)

Continue to add background detail. Added coral. Cut coral out of a pretty pink patterned fabric. Used variegated peach thread and added little ‘polyp bursts’ around the coral limbs.

Started the new tote bag. I just slightly enlarged my purse pattern so I could actually use it as a. Purse if I wanted to. I’ll post the steps as I go. 

Cut out pieces and machine sewed background pieces.
